This Privacy Policy explains how Maritime News (“we”, “us”) collects, uses and protects your personal data when you visit maritimenews.gr (the “Site”), in line with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and applicable Cyprus law.

- Newsletter sign-up: the email address (and name, if provided) you submit through our newsletter form.
- Contact form: the name, email address and message you submit through our Contact page.
- Comments: if commenting is enabled on an article, the name, email address and website (optional) you provide, along with your IP address and browser user agent, which WordPress stores to help identify spam.
- Server logs: standard technical data such as IP address, browser type and pages visited, collected automatically by our hosting infrastructure and security provider for operational and security purposes.
We do not currently run advertising or analytics tracking cookies on this Site. If that changes, this policy will be updated and, where required, we will request your consent first.
3. Why We Process Your Data
- Newsletter emails — processed on the basis of your consent, to send you news updates. You can withdraw consent at any time by unsubscribing.
- Contact form submissions — processed on the basis of your consent and our legitimate interest in responding to your enquiry.
- Comments — processed on the basis of your consent and our legitimate interest in maintaining a functioning, spam-free comment section.
- Server and security logs — processed on the basis of our legitimate interest in keeping the Site secure and operating correctly.
4. Cookies

5. Data Sharing
We do not sell your personal data. We may share data with service providers strictly necessary to operate the Site, such as our hosting provider and website security/content delivery service (Cloudflare), who process data on our behalf under their own data processing agreements. We do not transfer your data outside the EU/EEA except where a service provider we use (such as our CDN) operates infrastructure globally under standard contractual clauses or an equivalent safeguard.
6. How Long We Keep Your Data
- Newsletter email addresses: until you unsubscribe.
- Contact form submissions: up to 24 months, for record-keeping, unless you ask us to delete them sooner.
- Comments: retained for as long as the associated article remains published, unless removed earlier.
- Server/security logs: typically retained for a short rolling period (weeks to a few months) for security purposes.
7. Your Rights
Under GDPR, you have the right to:
- Request access to the personal data we hold about you;
- Request correction of inaccurate data;
- Request erasure of your data (“right to be forgotten”);
- Object to or restrict certain processing;
- Request a copy of your data in a portable format;
- Withdraw consent at any time, where processing is based on consent;
- Lodge a complaint with the Cyprus Commissioner for Personal Data Protection, or your local data protection authority.

This Site is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 16.
