Yangzijiang Maritime Development has secured firm contracts for 24 new vessels to be built at multiple Chinese shipyards, with deliveries scheduled across 2028 to 2030, according to a bourse filing. The program covers five distinct ship types: six bulk carriers of approximately 64,500 dwt slated for hand-over in 2029-2030, six product-oil and chemical tankers of 49,800 dwt, four stainless-steel chemical tankers of around 28,000 dwt, another four stainless-steel chemical tankers of 29,000 dwt, and four 319,000 dwt VLCC oil tankers with delivery timelines set for 2029-2030. Beyond the firm orders, the group has secured option rights for an additional 16 vessels, a step that would push its total disclosed newbuilding programme to 98 ships including seven already delivered and 75 firm units under construction.

Executive Chairman and CEO Ren Yuanlin said the company continues to spot compelling investment opportunities within global maritime markets alongside its long-standing equity co-investment partners, adding that the newbuilding commitment signals a constructive sector outlook prioritizing proven, environmentally-compliant vessel designs. The latest four VLCCs extend a crude tanker push that began with an eight-ship VLCC disclosure in April, equipped with scrubbers, bringing the company’s total disclosed VLCC programme to 12 ships. The newbuilds will be funded through a combination of equity co-investment and debt financing, and will be constructed to International Association of Classification Societies standards with comprehensive eco-friendly features, the company said, as it continues to evaluate leasing and resale opportunities to optimize shareholder returns.
