Piraeus-based Kyklades Maritime Corporation, one of Greece’s independent tanker owners and operators, has partnered with global maritime payments provider ShipMoney to introduce digital crew payment solutions across 18 of its vessels. The agreement will see ShipMoney’s platform used for crew wage advances and payouts across a multinational crew of approximately 500 seafarers drawn from Greece, the Philippines and the Balkans, replacing a manual, multi-party coordination process that previously slowed access to earnings while ships were at sea.
Under the prior system, a crew member requesting an advance close to a port call, or outside normal processing schedules, could require coordination between several parties before funds were released. The partnership reflects a broader shift among Greek shipowners toward digital crew payment infrastructure, moving away from cash-based systems that have historically created friction for seafarers managing remittances across multiple currencies and banking environments, with Kyklades framing the shift as consistent with its focus on seafarer welfare and operational efficiency.
