Abu Dhabi’s ADNOC L&S has added a pair of LNG carriers on order at Jiangnan Shipyard, while Malaysian gas shipping giant MISC has booked a newbuild LNG carrier at Hudong-Zhonghua, extending a wave of gas-carrier ordering that has run through much of 2026. Both yards are central to China’s dominance of the LNG newbuild market, which now accounts for the large majority of global LNG carrier construction capacity.
The orders reflect owners’ bets on rising LNG trade volumes as new liquefaction capacity comes online in the US, Qatar and elsewhere, alongside a broader push by tanker and gas owners to lock in yard slots before prices climb further. Chinese shipbuilders have used the LNG segment, once dominated by South Korean yards, to prove they can deliver complex, high-value gas carriers at scale.
